Start before you reach the warehouse

Costco is designed for discovery. That makes a visit enjoyable, but it also makes it easy to buy because something looks unusual or temporary. A ten-minute check before you leave gives you a reference point for the departments you actually need.

Separate Costco's reduction from the market

A product can be heavily reduced from Costco's previous price and still be available for less elsewhere. CostCutTen keeps those two facts separate. An official reduction tells you how the current Costco price compares with Costco's own regular price. A market comparison tells you how an exact product compares with another retailer.

Model numbers, pack sizes and delivery terms matter. A television with a similar name is not necessarily the same television; a grocery multipack is not comparable with one supermarket unit. Where an exact comparison cannot be made confidently, the app does not invent one.

Calculate the saving you will actually use

Bulk value disappears when food is wasted, storage becomes a problem or a larger quantity changes what you consume. Divide the price by the useful unit—per kilogram, per roll, per tablet or per bottle—and compare that with the quantity you normally buy.

For durable products, consider warranty, delivery and returns as well as the ticket price. The cheapest number is useful, but it is not the whole buying decision.

Check the price type at the shelf

Costco online prices can include delivery and may differ from a warehouse shelf price. In CostCutTen, national online prices and local photo-verified prices are visibly labelled. A local report expires after seven days so an old shelf label cannot remain presented as current.

If your warehouse has no recent local report, the app continues to show national online deals as national—not as a guessed local price.
